PopTart and Bean were out in the yard again, chasing each other around with sticks that they pretended were swords. The sisters, as usual, were laughing and having the time of their lives. PopTart, the older sister, suddenly stopped in her tracks and stared at the little pond in the corner of the yard.
“What’s wrong?” Bean asked, waving her stick like a knight ready for battle.
PopTart tilted her head, her thoughts clearly miles away. “Bean, have you ever thought about fish?”
“Fish?” Bean lowered her stick. “You mean, like the ones in our pond?” She pointed to the water where tiny minnows darted in the sunlight.
“Yeah,” PopTart said, kneeling by the edge of the pond. “These little fish live their whole lives in the pond. All they know is this water, these plants, and the mud at the bottom. They don’t know anything about what’s outside their little world.”
Bean crouched down beside her sister, watching the tiny fish swirl around. “You’re right. They’ve never seen the ocean or a car, or even a tree! They don’t know about the stars, or chocolate, or… or pizza!”
PopTart giggled but then grew serious again. “It made me think. Maybe we’re kind of like these fish compared to God. Just like the fish can’t understand what’s beyond their pond, there’s so much about the world and the universe that we don’t understand—stuff that only God knows.”
Bean’s eyes widened. “Whoa, I never thought about that before. You mean, like how God knows everything about space and planets and all the stars? And we don’t even know what’s on all the planets yet?”
“Exactly,” PopTart said. “And not just space—God knows all about how the tiniest bugs work, how plants grow, how our bodies were made… and He knows things we can’t even imagine!”
Bean thought for a moment, then picked up a rock and tossed it into the pond, watching the ripples spread out. “So… if we’re like fish, does that mean we can’t know anything about what’s outside our little ‘pond’?”
PopTart smiled. “Not exactly. See, God doesn’t want us to stay in the dark like fish. That’s why He gave us the Bible—to teach us about Him and His plans for us. And when Jesus came to earth, He showed us what God is really like. It’s like… God is letting us peek outside the pond!”Bean gasped, her face lighting up with excitement. “So the Bible is kind of like a window! It lets us see more of the amazing things God wants us to know.”
“Exactly!” PopTart said, jumping to her feet. “And the more
we read the Bible and learn about God, the more we realize how big He
is and how much He loves us.”
Bean grinned and splashed her hand in the water. “I bet these little fish don’t know how much we take care of them, feeding them and keeping the water clean. It’s like how God takes care of us even when we don’t realize it!”
PopTart nodded. “Right. Just like we take care of these fish, God takes care of us—and He knows so much more than we ever could.”
The sisters sat quietly for a moment, watching the fish swim peacefully in the pond. Finally, Bean said, “You know, I think I’m going to read my Bible more. I want to learn everything I can about what’s outside the pond!”
PopTart laughed and gave her sister a hug. “Me too, Bean. Let’s explore together!”
And with that, the two girls raced back to the house, ready to dive into their next Bible adventure, eager to learn more about their Creator who knows everything—even things beyond the pond.
